Static Formula Examples

Audience: Administrators Edition: Enterprise & Premium

A formula is an expression telling the computer what mathematical operation to perform upon a specific value or values. One type of formula available to OrgChart users is the Static Formula.

Static Formulas do not change when boxes are added, deleted, or filtered from the chart, and can be particularly useful for performing Rollups. Reference the Rollup Examples article for more information.

Types of Static Formulas

There are four main categories of static formulas in OrgChart:

  • Arithmetic - These formulas allow administrators to use basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to calculate various metrics.

  • Concatenate - Concatenate formulas allow administrators to combine different fields together, such as combining the First Name field and the Last Name field into a single field.

  • Lookup - Enables administrators to look up a value in another record (for example, looking up the name of an employee's HR manager using the HR manager's employee ID)

  • Rollup - Rollups allow administrators create more complex to view the totals in the Viewer, as well as see the original values when using charts in Workbench.
