Rule-Driven Charting (Workbench)

Overview

Administrator and Read/Write users can create and modify Chart Templates , which contain a set of conditional formatting rules that drive the presentation of certain employee records, eliminating the need for manual formatting. For example, you can create a Chart Template that colors employee records orange when their Location is in Texas.

The following article provides step-by-step instructions for creating a Chart Template in OrgChart Workbench.

Creating a Chart Template in OrgChart Workbench
  1. Log into OrgChart Workbench.

  2. Click on the Templates tab at the bottom of the right side panel.

  3. Click on the Shared radio button at the top of the right side panel.

    Note

    Note: Templates created with the User radio button selected are only available to the user who designs them. Create Templates with the Shared radio button selected, so that all created Templates are accessible to other Administrator and Read/Write users.

  4. Click on the addtemplate.png icon at the top of the right side panel. The Chart Template Configuration panel is displayed.

  5. Click on the renametemplate.png icon (in the top left of the Chart Template Configuration panel) to rename the untitled Chart Template, and then click OK.

  6. Check the checkbox next to the default Always Apply rule the, and then click on the edittemplate.png option. The Rule Editor panel is displayed.

  7. Click on the Box Styles tab.

  8. Click on the Shared radio button in the Box Style Library row.

    Note: Selecting the System radio button allows you to apply system generated Box Styles to your chart. Selecting the Shared radio button allows you to apply custom Box Styles to your chart. Reference the Custom Box Styles (Workbench) article for more information.

  9. Select the Box Style you wish to Always Apply to the chart from the Box Style to Apply dropdown menu.

  10. Click OK.

  11. Click on the addtemplate.png icon to add a new Basic Rule.

    Note: Rules are applied in the order that they are shown. You can use the moveuparrow.png and movedownarrow.png icons to reorder the rules.

  12. Select a Field that you would like to target from the left-hand Field dropdown menu.

  13. Select a Comparison value from the Comparison dropdown menu to define the relationship between the Field and the Field Value.

  14. Enter a Field Value in the Value text box to define the condition of this Basic Rule.

  15. Click on the Box Properties radio button (on the left side of the Rule Editor panel.

  16. Check the Box Color checkbox, and then click on the BoxColor_Icon.png icon. The Color Picker is displayed.

  17. Select a color to apply to the employee records who meet the condition of this Basic Rule, and then click OK.

    Note

    Note: You can drive multiple aspects of the box presentation when a record matches the established criteria. For example, you can apply Box Properties, as well as Field Properties using one basic rule.

  18. Click on the Apply icon at the top of the Chart Template Configuration panel. The Template is applied to the chart.

  19. Click on the OK_Icon_Workbench.png icon to exit the Chart Template Configuration panel.

  20. Click on the BLUE_SaveIcon.png icon (at the top of the right side panel) to save the changes made to the Chart Template.

Note: Enterprise and Premium customers can bring this Template into OrgChart Viewer as a View option. Reference the Chart Settings: Presentation article for more information on adding Chart Templates to OrgChart Viewer.
