Overview

A formula is an expression telling the computer what mathematical operation to perform upon a specific value or values. One type of formula available to OrgChart users is the Static Formula.

Static Formulas do not change when boxes are added, deleted, or filtered from the chart, and can be particularly useful for performing Rollups in OrgChart Viewer. Reference the Rollup Examples article for more information.

Types of Static Formulas

There are four main categories of Static Formulas in OrgChart:

  • Arithmetic - Use basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to calculate various metrics.

  • Concatenate - Combine different fields together, such as combining the First Name field and the Last Name field into a single field.

  • Lookup - Look up a value in another record. For example, looking up the name of an employee's HR manager using the HR manager's employee ID.

  • Rollup - Perform an operation on a defined scope of data. For example, sum the salaries for all employees in a specific branch.
