Chart Settings: Chart Builder

Audience

Audience: Administrator Edition: Enterprise & Premium

Overview

OrgChart Builder allows you to take a snapshot of any subset of a master chart. Snapshots created using OrgChart Builder are loaded into OrgChart Workbench as "OrgChart documents." End users can modify OrgChart documents as needed (add, update, move, and delete boxes and change presentation options). Documents can be saved, opened, closed, exported, and even synchronized with source data.

Accessing Chart Builder Configuration

Select More > Chart Settings, and then select the Chart Builder option.

Chart Builder Settings

The Chart Builder Settings panel allows you to configure the options that will be presented to end users when they access the Chart Builder.

Dynamic Formulas

OrgChart documents can contain dynamic formulas (formulas that update as you make changes in OrgChart Workbench). OrgChart documents can also contain static formulas (formulas that reflect the value as calculated from the source data).  For example, a static formula for Headcount should match the number of active employees in your source data. The dynamic formula for Headcount matches the number of active employees in the generated org chart (e.g. will change if you add or delete boxes from the chart).

Reference the Dynamic Formulas topic for more information.

General Settings

Default Chart Levels

The default number of levels to include in the generated chart.

Single-Page Max Query Limit

Chart Builder will post a warning message if the end user attempts to create a single-page chart that contains more boxes than the set limit. This option protects the end user from creating an unusable chart. For example, if the end user is creating a printable chart only so many boxes can fit on a single page.

Multi-Page Max Query Limit

Chart Builder will post a warning message if the end user attempts to create a multi-page chart that contains more boxes than the set limit. This option protects the end user from creating an extremely large chart document (e.g. larger organizations generating a chart for the entire organization could result in document containing thousands of pages).

Restrict Query

By default, all available fields (as determined by the user’s Access Group) are copied into the generated Org Chart document. Optionally, you can reduce the number of fields included in the generated Org Chart document.

This has the following benefits:

  • Reduce document size

  • Reduce document complexity (less fields associated with each record)
